In 1952, Bean made a guest appearance on NBC Radio's weekly hot-jazz series The Chamber Music Society of Lower Basin Street, giving the young comic his first national exposure. He recalled that Orson Welles once called him over to a table and said, "You stole my name," and then dismissed him with a wave. (Bean again told the story nearly verbatim on the Carson show September 23, 1976, but Carson appeared to not remember having heard it before.) īean claimed that his name was a blend of the pompous and the amusing. Bay breeze bed and breakfast11/28/2023 You will be most happy to have chosen this B and B. The room we had in one of the cottages was spacious and the beds were comfortable. The rooms of the main house invite you to slow down, read, or just look out on the lovely gardens and shimmering bay. Breezes, boats, and birds provide the entertainment while Bill and Becky serve eggs, sausage, fried grits, biscuits and homemade preserves. Bill and Becky cook up a full and delicious breakfast every morning, which on weekends is served on their pier jutting out into the bay. Becky is a wonderful story teller and full of a local's knowledge of the town's history and attractions. Truly our hosts, Becky and Bill Jones, were a key part in making our stay so memorable. Everything from a mantel to a sofa or silk tie quilt. Wicker, stained glass, hooked and oriental rugs abound in every room. Recommended to me by a local, I knew I would like it, but I did not expect it to be as comfortable and charming as it was. This unique bay front stucco home was built in the early 1930s and has been lovingly restored, remodeled and enlarged through the years to hold family heirlooms and period antiques which date back five generations. This is right on the water and we sat on the pier every night we had decent weather. I also have a feeling that the water bottles for guest use are re-used.I don't like that. I think our stay would have been much more enjoyable had we been in one of the smaller guest cottages. In our room I continued to smell pet urine and it was bothersome-couldn't tell if this was because the litter boxes were in the adjacent rooms attached to the main guest house or if it was from our room. I honestly don't mind pets, but they're not for everyone and the guest staying with me didn't enjoy them at all. ![]() ![]() There are pets everywhere and I don't really recall reading about the animals on any website. However, since it's just below the owner's home, you can hear everything and they do awaken quite early each morning to prepare breakfast/coffee for guests. I can't remember the name of the room we stayed in, but it was an apartment situated below Bill and Becky's living quarters. Becky and Bill are good hosts, fix delicious breakfasts, and are very knowledgeable about the area-they were overall fine!
